In my work as a counselor I have never met anybody (including myself) who did not suffer from some form of low self-confidence at times. In moments of vulnerability everyone doubts their attractiveness, their competence and even their basic being.
People may say to themselves, ‘there is something wrong with me but I don’t know what it is’ or ‘I am not sure that anybody could truly love me if they really knew how I am’.
Many are also affected by some (semi-)religious ideas that deep down they are ‘bad’ and always will be ‘bad’. Doubts about ourselves and feelings of low-esteem seems to be a universal condition that virtually everybody is suffering from in one form or another.
What can we do about our low self-confidence?
Many people think they have to build up something in their mind in order to have good self-confidence. So they may try hard to think positively and may say many positive affirmations in the hope that this psychic energy will somehow construct the part of their mind that they feel is missing.
The good news is that we do not need to work hard to build up our self-confidence.Read more…
I was recently contacted by Tara Springett who is the author of several self-help books, a Buddhist teacher and a fully qualified psychotherapist.
She has created an excellent resource to help others make their wish come true for 2011. Tara has enjoyed great success with her clients, and would like to share this success with a larger audience.
Tara’s words in the email she sent were: “I think your readers will resonate with my manifesting-your-dreams resource. It is new and completely free.”
She has graciously provided me with the programming code so I can share it with my readers. I have posted her resource immediately below this introduction – which allows you free (no opt-in) and immediate access to Tara’s interactive manifestation tool.
After you have used it, I would appreciate your feedback by posting a comment. You are welcome to come back and use it as often as you like.
Material Disclosure: I have no affiliate nor reciprocal relationship with Tara Springett. I have not received coaching from Tara so I cannot testify as to the effectiveness of her coaching. I have, however, read some of her work and feel it is an excellent resource to help others. None of the links posted in this article are affiliate links and I will not receive compensation if you choose to avail your self of Tara’s services.
Do you sometimes feel like you are stuck in a negative cycle, with no end in sight to the emotional suffering?
Then read on to discover how simple it can actually be to change your emotions.
Psychology Today recently printed an online article called “Action Creates Emotion” with the subtitle “Want to change how you’re feeling? Change what you’re doing.”
This is a very interesting article as it points out previous beliefs that emotion creates behavior are incorrect and in fact, behavior shapes our emotion.
The psychologist/philosopher William James was one of the first theorists to notice this counter-intuitive process. He believed that emotions arise out of the bodily actions we take in response to what is happening in our lives.
It is also important to note from the article, the comment “Human beings, prone as they are to prefer immediate rewards, often respond to discomfort by withdrawal and avoidance. Read more…
Impostor Syndrome ~ Self Sabotaging Behavior At It’s Worst
Guest Post – by Natalie Louise
Impostor Syndrome
Do you have an underlying fear that one day someone is going to push through your crowd of admirers, take you by the arm, and then insist on screaming to every one in sundry that all your success is a mistake, you are a fraud.. you are, in fact, an Impostor?
The Impostor Syndrome is when you have that feeling that you haven’t earned your success – that your success or achievements are the result of sheer luck or being in the right place at the right time.
You are always worried that others will discover that you really don’t know what you are doing – that you’re a phony.
It’s a feeling of being fake. Irrespective of your successes, there is still a pit of your stomach feeling that people find out that you are not as successful, smart, talented, good, or anything else positive, as they think you are.
The dread that you are going to be exposed as being an impostor or fake is always present. Your undercurrent of self-doubt within yourself makes it hard for you to want to draw attention to yourself. The more success and therefore more attention you bring yourself, the more vulnerable you are to being unmasked.
The feeling that you somehow don’t deserve your success, and you feel as though you are a fake, is chronic self doubt. Read more…
Are you brimming with self confidence; mentally and emotionally strong; feeling adequate with your intellectual capacity?
Do you speak your mind freely without fearing what others might think or say about you? Do you settle for less than respect?
How much on a scale from one to ten do you believe in yourself?
“A successful person is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks that others throw at him or her.” ~David Brinkley~
Many get emotionally devastated when someone rejects them or disagrees.
They let go of what they believe in and start believing what others say. They dig a deep hole and get stuck in it. They’re stuck because they allowed seeds of negativity planted by others to grow and begin to agree with what others have said.
This type of thinking can only lead you down a path of self-judgment and self-criticism; creating unwanted feelings that you’re just not good enough – inadequate. Read more…
I had never heard of it until a friend emailed me a YouTube link, since he knows I am into self improvement.
Now at first glance this may seem like a ridiculous exercise, however I urge you to keep an open mind.
In some energy healing resources I have read we balance the left and right brain when using our hands to touch the opposite side of the body.
In doing this, we begin healing both physical and mental issues. Mind you, I am not a medical doctor so I can’t verify this from a scientific standpoint. However, there seems to be a few doctors who promote brain yoga to their patients.
I’m going to use it and see what happens. I figure there is nothing to lose except a few minutes and a lot to gain if it really works.
Below I have posted the 4 minute news video from YouTube. I hope you enjoy. Please post your comments as I am interested in what others have to say.
Also, if you want to read more about this technique, directly below the video I have posted for you a direct link to the book “SuperBrain Yoga” available at Amazon.com.
Today more often than not we are bombarded with “expert advice”. Some of it is excellent, while much of it is useless.
So, who should you listen to?
“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it – even if I have said it -unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”
~Buddha~
There is research or surveys done by professionals, scientific community, the medical profession, personal development experts and the list goes on.
Look a little deeper and you will often notice totally opposing opinions, beliefs or proof on any given topic. Read more…
Time is one of the few commodities we cannot save or store. Everyone is allotted 24 hours in a day and most of us have busy lifestyles with little time to lose.
It would appear spending ½ to one hour sitting perfectly still doing nothing might easily fall into the category of a useless activity devouring precious time.
A Zen practitioner meditates between 6 and 8 hours each day for 20 to 25 years before they permanently balance the left and right hemispheres of the brain
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have 20 to 25 years to become “enlightened.” I can barely squeeze out an extra hour per day, let alone 6 to 8.
Why would anyone even consider meditation? Read more…
Does it seem like your will power is non-existent? Are you having difficulty eliminating bad habits, such as smoking or over eating?
If you are discouraged with your apparent lack of will power, this may be the most important information you could possibly get your hands on.
Previously, the medical community believed the human brain consisted of the conscious and subconscious. More recently, scientific human brain research has proven this to be inaccurate.
Tests done on human subjects actually prove we think in six areas of our brains simultaneously. While asleep our mind still functions in five of these areas.
This means our conscious thinking is actually only 1/6th of our brain power and the non-conscious portion is actually 5/6th.
This is like having a tug of war with your habits. One of you is pulling for self improvement, change and positive outcomes. On the other end of the rope there are 5 of you with hidden, pre-programmed subconscious beliefs keeping you stuck right where you are now.
No matter how strong someone’s will power, consciously trying to change is more than likely than to fail. Read more…
